The Hope Scott Wing is perfectly situated amidst the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders within Abbotsford's estate, the beautiful scenery that inspired the 19th century novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott. Wherever your interests lie, whether it be history, culture, romance, the great outdoors or rest and relaxation, you will find them amply represented here at the heart of “Scott Country”.
Guests can discover the history of the region whilst visiting awe-inspiring castles, captivating abbeys and quaint market towns including Melrose, Galashiels, Kelso and Selkirk, all of which are within half an hour drive from Abbotsford.
For those wanting to explore the picturesque Scottish landscape there are many walking trails, from hiking over the renowned three summits of the Eildon Hills to completing sections of the famous Borders Abbey Way and Southern Upland Way. There is also an array of outdoor activities including fishing on the famous banks of the River Tweed, perfecting your swing at one of our local golf courses, clay shooting and alpaca trekking through the Cheviot Hills.
Adrenaline seekers will also be delighted to hear that a trip to the Scottish Borders doesn’t need to be purely relaxation. There are plenty thrilling activities including world class mountain biking, quad-biking, horse riding and scuba diving.
Only an hour from Scotland’s beautiful capital city, guests can also enjoy a day trip to Edinburgh. Here you can soak in more of Scotland’s unique history visiting Edinburgh Castle and Sir Walter Scott’s Monument or enjoying one of the fascinating city walking tours. Alternatively, you can shop till you drop along the famous Royal Mile; hike up an extinct volcano, Arthur’s seat, which hosts one of the best views over the city; or be captivated in the National Museum of Scotland. You can catch a train to Edinburgh from Tweedbank, just one mile from the accommodation, to Waverley Station – the only train station in the world to be named after a novel… and arguably one of Scott’s finest.
